Clay experts ten Clay agencies, compared

A Clay expert builds and runs your go-to-market data in Clay (clay.com), the GTM data platform: enrichment waterfalls, buying signals, AI research columns and the sync back into your CRM.

This page compares ten Clay agencies and consultants we checked on their own sites and on Clay's partner directory on October 16, 2026.

It also explains what most lists skip: how Clay's own partner tiers work, what Clay itself costs in actions and data credits, what experts publish as prices, and when a freelancer beats an agency.

01/ the role

What a Clay expert does and which Clay we mean

This page is about Clay (clay.com), the go-to-market data platform.

It is not about the medical consultancy called Clay Consulting, or the design agency also called Clay.

Clay the platform pulls data from 150+ providers into one table, adds AI research, and pushes the result into your CRM, sequencer or ad accounts.

A Clay expert designs and builds those tables and workflows for you.

In practice that means deciding which accounts and people matter, which data sources to try in which order, which signals should trigger action, what the AI columns should research, and where each record ends up.

Most Clay experts now call themselves GTM engineers.

The skill is half data, half sales: knowing what a good lead looks like matters as much as knowing Clay's features.

Our GTM engineer page covers the role in depth.

Clay expert, Clay consultant, Clay agency: what is the difference?

The labels overlap.

A Clay consultant (in the Clay.com sense) is usually one person who designs or audits your setup and trains your team.

A Clay agency or studio builds and often runs the system with a team.

A Clay expert can be either; Clay's own directory lists both individuals and agencies.

Ask whether you are buying advice, a build you keep, or a team that runs it.

02/ the build

What a Clay expert builds six layers, in order

Every serious Clay engagement touches these.

Ask any expert how they handle each one, and who owns the tables afterwards.

Map the market and score accounts

Pull every account that fits your ICP, then score and tier them.

Clay's Audiences and search do the sourcing; Clay's docs say sourcing lists of accounts or contacts does not use an Action, so the cost sits in what you enrich next.

For where Clay fits in the wider stack, see our GTM tech stack guide.

For how signals turn into outreach, see signal-based selling.

A left-to-right diagram of a Clay build: data sources feed an enrichment waterfall, signals and AI research, then scoring, then CRM sync, sequencer and ad audiences.
Sources and signals come in on the left; waterfalls and AI research fill the gaps; scoring decides what matters; the CRM, sequencer and ad platforms act on it.

04/ Clay's programme

Clay's partner tiers what Artisan, Studio and Elite Studio mean

Clay runs a Solutions Partner Program and a public directory of partners at clay.com/experts.

These are the four tiers, in Clay's own words, checked today.

TierWho it is for, per ClayWhat Clay gives the partner
Artisan"Very good at what you do", with work producing repeatable success for several clientsResources to improve Clay skills and grow pipeline
Advanced ArtisanAn established Clay expert and GTM advisor or fractional leader for larger organizationsNetwork, positioning and leads to scale
StudioA partner that has built a team for more complex, strategic and higher-volume projectsDeeper co-selling with Clay on SMB and mid-market deals
Elite StudioPartners solving the toughest GTM problems for the largest enterprisesAccount planning, targeted co-selling and bespoke co-marketing

How partners get in. Clay's application has four steps: a short form listing any Clay certifications, a fit review, a showcase of Clay builds and client testimonials, then a final review.

Clay says applications are reviewed monthly on a rolling basis.

Clay publishes no numeric thresholds for each tier.

What partners earn. Clay says partners receive 20% of revenue from customers they onboard and serve, and can apply to a Partner Growth Fund of $500 to $15,000 for workshops, courses or tools.

That is worth knowing: a partner who recommends a bigger Clay plan may also earn from it.

Ask.

What the tier tells you. A tier is Clay's view of a partner's skill and scale.

It is not a guarantee of results in your market, and good independent experts exist outside the programme.

05/ what Clay costs

Clay pricing and credits from clay.com/pricing, October 16, 2026

Before you pay an expert, know what the platform costs.

Clay charges for two things: Actions (platform work) and Data Credits (data and AI bought from providers).

PlanPrice shownIncluded each monthWhat it adds
Free$0500 actions and 100 data creditsWaterfalls, Claygent, bring your own API keys; up to 200 rows per table
Launch$167 a month on the plan card; the FAQ says "starting at $185/mo"15,000 actions; 3,000 data credits (the FAQ says 2,500)Phone enrichment, job change and news signals, email sequencing, recurring runs
Growth$446 a month on the plan card; the FAQ says "starting at $495/mo"40,000 actions; 6,000 data creditsCRM auto-sync, HTTP API, webhooks, web intent signals, ad audiences, priority support
EnterpriseCustom, annual commitment100,000+ data credits and 200,000+ actions (FAQ)SSO, role-based access, bulk enrichment, a dedicated growth strategist

Reading the prices. Clay's pricing page has a monthly and an annual toggle, with annual billing saving 10%.

The gap between the card prices ($167, $446) and the FAQ prices ($185, $495) matches that 10%, but the page does not say which billing period each figure shows.

Check the toggle before you budget.

How credits work. Clay's docs say each enrichment, AI run or record exported costs one Action, and Actions do not roll over.

Data Credits vary by data type, typically 6 to 20 per fully enriched record, and roll over up to twice the monthly amount on monthly plans.

Clay says data credits start at $0.05 each and actions at less than $0.01.

Two cost levers an expert should pull. Connecting your own provider API keys skips Data Credits entirely (you still use an Action).

And one-time credit top-ups carry a 30% premium, so a good expert sizes your plan instead of topping up every month.

08/ choosing

Which kind of Clay expert do you need? pick your situation

What is the main problem you want Clay to solve?

CRM enrichment

A CRM clean-up specialist

Hire someone who cleans, enriches and scores existing records before anyone sends a thing.

Sculpted, for example, runs a 4-week CRM clean-up sprint and does not send outbound.

  • ✓ Field mapping agreed first
  • ✓ Accuracy checked on a sample
  • ✓ Always-on refresh after

Risk: a clean CRM with no plays on top changes nothing.

09/ before you sign

How to hire a Clay expert eight questions to ask

01

Whose Clay workspace is it?

Builds should live in your workspace, on your plan, so you keep every table if you part ways.

02

What tier are you, and since when?

Check the claim on Clay's directory.

Tiers change, and some firms quote old ones.

03

What will it cost in credits?

Ask for an estimate per record and per month.

Clay says a fully enriched record typically costs 6 to 20 data credits.

04

Which providers, in what order?

A waterfall should be ordered by cost and hit rate in your market, not by habit.

05

Which signals, and what happens next?

Every signal needs a named play: a sequence, a task, an ad audience.

A signal with no action is cost.

06

How do you test AI columns?

Prompts should be checked on a sample, with spend capped, before running on the full table.

07

How do you write to our CRM?

Which fields, which rules for overwriting, and how errors are caught.

08

Do you earn from our Clay plan?

Clay pays partners 20% of revenue on customers they onboard and serve.

That is fine; just know it when they recommend a plan.

10/ walk away

Red flags in a Clay proposal what we would question

Builds in their workspace, not yours

If the tables live in the agency's account, you rent your own data.

No credit estimate

Credits are a real cost.

Top-ups carry a 30% premium, so surprise overages are expensive.

Tool before ICP

A proposal that starts with Clay features, not with who you sell to and why they buy now.

Signals with no plays

Twenty signals tracked and none wired to an action is a dashboard, not pipeline.

A tier they do not hold

"Elite" claims are easy to check on Clay's directory.

No documentation

Ask for written docs or recorded walkthroughs of every table.

Several firms on this list include them as standard.
