In-house SDR vs outsourced SDR team the cost, honestly compared
There is no Bureau of Labor Statistics category for SDRs.
The nearest is wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives, whose 2025 median pay was $76,460.
BLS splits it: $72,080 for reps outside technical and scientific products, $104,920 for those selling them, as of May 2025.
Wages are not the whole cost.
In June 2026, wages and salaries were 68.5% of employer compensation costs for full-time private industry workers, with benefits the rest.
For example, on our arithmetic, $76,460 divided by 0.685 is about $111,600 a year, or roughly $9,300 a month, before recruiting, tools, data and a manager's time.
Then add time.
The Bridge Group's 2025 survey of 351 B2B companies puts average SDR ramp at 3.0 months, median annual attrition at 40% and average tenure at 1.9 years.
Every departure restarts the ramp.
That churn, more than salary, is the case for renting.
When building wins
Build in-house when outbound will be a core channel for years, your sale is technical, and you have a sales development leader to run it.
The Bridge Group reports 6.4 SDRs per first-line leader; one or two reps with no manager is where in-house teams fail.
Some providers soften the choice: memoryBlue offers an audition-to-hire model that lets you move a rep onto your payroll.
