Go-to-market strategy services

Go-to-market strategy services are the separate pieces of work you can buy to decide who you sell to, what you say, what you charge and how you reach buyers: ICP research, positioning, pricing, channel strategy, a sales playbook, launch and market entry plans, and the systems that run it.

This page is the menu.

For each service: what you get, how long it usually takes, who should buy it, and what providers charge on their own pricing pages.

GTM Quest is a London GTM agency that works with US and UK teams; we say where we fit, and where someone else is the better buy.

01/ the definition

What go-to-market strategy services are and what they are not

Harvard Business School Online defines a go-to-market strategy as a detailed plan of how your startup will reach its target customers effectively and efficiently.

It names three facets to get right: distribution channels, product messaging and marketing tactics, and the estimated cost to acquire a customer.

Go-to-market strategy services are how you buy that plan, or parts of it, from outside the company.

Some providers sell the whole plan as one project.

Most sell it in pieces: an ICP sprint, a positioning sprint, a pricing project, a channel plan, a sales playbook.

Each piece has its own deliverable, length and price.

If you want to understand what a GTM strategy contains and how to write one yourself, read our GTM strategy guide or what GTM means.

This page is for the next question: what can I buy, from whom, and what will it cost?

Services vs consulting vs agency

A services package is a fixed scope with a fixed price, such as "positioning in 30 days".

Consulting is a senior person working on your specific question, usually billed by the day or the month.

A go-to-market agency does the strategy and then runs the work.

The consulting section below explains when each one fits.

Why buyers are paying for this now

Buyers decide early.

6sense's 2025 study of nearly 4,000 B2B buyers found that 95% of the time the winning vendor is already on the Day One shortlist, and first contact with sellers comes at 61% of the way through the journey.

Weak positioning loses deals before sales ever hears about them.

Buyers also prefer to do the work themselves.

Gartner found 61% of B2B buyers prefer an overall rep-free buying experience, and 73% actively avoid suppliers who send irrelevant outreach.

Strategy work that sharpens who you target and what you say pays back in every channel.

02/ the menu

Go-to-market strategy services, service by service what you get, how long it takes, who should buy it

Eleven service lines.

Lengths are what providers publish for their own offers, so treat them as typical rather than standard.

Prices for each are in the next section.

01

Market and ICP research

Interviews with customers and lost deals, CRM analysis and market data to define the ideal customer profile: which companies, which roles, which triggers.

Buy it if your win rate varies wildly by segment, or sales and marketing describe the customer differently.

  • āœ“ ICP definition, tiered by fit
  • āœ“ Buyer personas and buying triggers
  • āœ“ Qualification criteria for sales
  • āœ“ Target account list criteria

Typical length: two to three weeks.

WhyThey promises its ICP sprint in 2 to 3 weeks.

02

Segmentation and TAM

Sizing the total, serviceable and obtainable market, and splitting it into segments you can reach and win.

Buy it if you are raising money, choosing between verticals or deciding whether a new market is worth the effort.

  • āœ“ TAM, SAM and SOM with method shown
  • āœ“ Segment scoring and priority order
  • āœ“ Account counts by segment

Typical length: two to six weeks.

Orogen Research lists a Market Research Sprint covering TAM/SAM/SOM, ICP and trends.

03

Positioning and messaging

What category you compete in, what makes you different, and the core messages every channel uses.

Buy it if prospects cannot explain what you do after a demo, or every rep pitches differently.

  • āœ“ Positioning statement and category
  • āœ“ Messaging architecture by persona
  • āœ“ One-liner, proof points, objection handling
  • āœ“ Website and deck rewrite brief

Typical length: two to six weeks.

SaaSGTM sells positioning as a 30-day sprint; Seventh Bear runs a four- to six-week one.

04

Pricing and packaging

The pricing model, the value metric, the tiers and the discount rules.

Buy it if discounting is out of control, upgrades are rare, or you are launching a product or moving to usage-based pricing.

  • āœ“ Pricing model and value metric
  • āœ“ Tier and package design
  • āœ“ Price points and discount guardrails
  • āœ“ Rollout and migration plan

Typical length: one week to five months.

Atlas publishes options from one week to six weeks; Pace Pricing's full program runs 16 to 20 weeks.

05

Channel strategy

Which channels to prove first, which to cut, and the budget and targets for each.

McKinsey found B2B buyers use an average of ten interaction channels, up from five in 2016, so the choice matters.

Buy it if you spend across many channels and cannot say which produce pipeline.

  • āœ“ Channel priorities with targets
  • āœ“ Budget allocation model
  • āœ“ Test plan for new channels

Typical length: one to four weeks, often bundled with a full strategy.

Go Global includes channel strategy in a two-week growth strategy.

06

Sales process and playbook

Stage definitions, qualification, discovery structure, talk tracks and handovers, written down so new reps ramp fast.

Buy it if the founder still closes every deal, or forecasts are guesses.

  • āœ“ Deal stages with exit criteria
  • āœ“ Discovery and demo structure
  • āœ“ Talk tracks and objection handling
  • āœ“ Hiring and comp plan input

Typical length: six weeks to a quarter.

Marc Medrano scopes each engagement around a 90-day plan.

See also our GTM strategy playbooks.

07

Launch planning

The plan for a new product, feature or segment: narrative, sequencing, assets, enablement and launch metrics.

Buy it if a launch date is fixed and nobody owns the cross-team plan.

  • āœ“ Launch narrative and messaging
  • āœ“ Sequenced launch calendar
  • āœ“ Sales enablement and assets
  • āœ“ Success metrics

Typical length: three to ten weeks.

Orogen's Positioning and Launch Program runs 6 to 10 weeks.

08

Market entry

A go or no-go on a new country, then the ICP, messaging, pricing and channel changes needed to sell there.

Buy it if you are taking a product that works at home into the US or UK.

Our US market entry guide covers the legal and tax side.

  • āœ“ Go or no-go recommendation
  • āœ“ Localized ICP and messaging
  • āœ“ Entry channel and first pipeline plan
  • āœ“ Hiring and entity timing

Typical length: one week for a snapshot, about 90 days for a full entry sprint.

Saasili delivers its snapshot in 5 to 7 days.

09

Demand generation and ABM

A plan to create and capture demand, or to focus on a named list of accounts.

Forrester found the typical buying decision now includes 13 internal stakeholders and nine external influencers, which is why account-based plans map whole buying groups.

Buy it if your deals are large and your target list is finite.

  • āœ“ Account selection and tiers
  • āœ“ Buying-group maps
  • āœ“ Campaign and play design
  • āœ“ Pipeline measurement

Typical length: four to eight weeks for strategy, then a retainer to run it.

See our account-based marketing strategy guide.

10

RevOps and GTM systems

The CRM, data, enrichment and automation that make the strategy measurable and repeatable.

Buy it if your CRM cannot tell you where pipeline comes from, or outbound depends on one person's spreadsheets.

  • āœ“ CRM architecture and lifecycle stages
  • āœ“ Data enrichment and routing
  • āœ“ Signal-led outbound workflows
  • āœ“ Pipeline dashboards

Typical length: two to twelve weeks.

See our GTM tech stack guide and our list of Clay experts.

11

GTM audit

An outside review of the whole motion: ICP, messaging, channels, funnel, systems and team.

Buy it if growth has stalled and you do not know which of the ten services above you actually need.

  • āœ“ Funnel and conversion analysis
  • āœ“ Messaging and channel review
  • āœ“ Systems and data review
  • āœ“ Prioritized fix list

Typical length: two to six weeks.

Refine Labs' assessment runs six weeks.

Read our GTM audit guide or try the free GTM scorecard.

Most companies need three or four of these, not all eleven.

The usual order is research, then positioning and pricing, then channels and playbook, with systems built alongside.

The picker below helps you choose where to start.

Flow diagram of go-to-market strategy services in order: research, positioning and pricing, channel and playbook planning, then systems, demand programs and audit.
The services build on each other. Research feeds positioning and pricing, which feed the channel plan and sales playbook. Systems and programs run the plan, and an audit checks it.

Two patterns stand out.

First, the same service can differ in price by ten times: positioning runs from £4,500 to $30,000 at the start of the range.

The difference is usually seniority, research depth (customer interviews cost time) and whether the provider builds assets or only writes the framework.

Second, cheap fixed-price strategy usually means a document and no execution.

That can be exactly right for a founder with a team ready to run it.

It is the wrong buy if nobody will act on the plan next month.

04/ how it is priced

How go-to-market strategy services are priced five engagement formats

Providers package the same work in five ways.

The format matters as much as the price: it decides who carries the risk if the scope grows.

ITJobsWatch tracks UK contract job ads that cite GTM strategy.

In the six months to 10 October 2026, the median daily rate was £407, the 75th percentile £550 and the 90th percentile £1,050.

That is based on only 20 quoted rates, so treat it as a rough guide to contractor rates, not to senior consultants or firms.

If you need a person rather than a firm, our sister site Fractional Quest lists fractional go-to-market leaders.

Our fractional GTM and fractional CMO guides compare the options.

05/ the big decision

Strategy-only or strategy plus execution? what you get for the money

The biggest choice is not which provider.

It is whether you buy a plan, or a plan and the people who run it.

Strategy plus executionStrategy only
What you getA plan and a running motion: lists, campaigns, outbound, CRMA plan: documents, frameworks, a roadmap
Typical formatMonthly retainer, often with a strategy sprint firstFixed-fee sprint or assessment
Speed to pipelineWeeks, because the same team builds what it designsDepends on your team finding time to execute
Feedback loopStrategy changes as results come inFrozen at handover unless you rehire
RiskA retainer that drifts without clear targetsA plan nobody runs

→ Strategy-only wins when you have a capable team with time to execute. Strategy plus execution wins when the bottleneck is hands, not ideas. Either way, a go-to-market plan only proves itself when it meets real buyers.

06/ consulting

Go-to-market strategy consulting how it differs from a services package

Go-to-market strategy consulting is senior advice on your specific go-to-market question, from a person or small firm, usually billed by the day, the month or a written proposal.

A services package sells a known deliverable; consulting sells judgment on a problem that does not fit a template.

The line is blurry because many consultants now publish packages.

Rocklane Strategy, for example, publishes starting prices for each engagement tier, from a $8K launch project to a $50K 90-day rebuild, plus advisory retainers from $4K a month with a six-month minimum.

What makes it consulting is that a senior advisor scopes and leads the work, not the price list.

When consulting beats a package

A new category or a big bet. Entering a market with no clear competitors, or a board-level decision like moving upmarket, needs judgment that a template cannot supply.

Conflicting internal views. When sales, marketing and product disagree, an outside senior person can run the process and make the call stick.

Complex buying groups. Gartner's research on rep-free buying found 69% of buyers report inconsistencies between a supplier's website and what its sellers say.

Fixing that across teams is change management as much as strategy.

When a package beats consulting

The problem is common. ICP definition, positioning and pricing for a B2B SaaS product follow well-known methods.

A fixed price protects you from scope creep.

You need a fast, cheap first step. Saasili's US Market Entry Snapshot is $1,200 and takes 5 to 7 days.

That is a sensible test before a larger commitment.

How to evaluate a go-to-market strategy provider seven checks

  1. 01

    Write the outcome first

Three results you expect within 90 days, each with a number. A provider who cannot respond to that brief is selling a process, not an outcome.

    BRIEF
  2. 02

Match the provider to the service

A pricing specialist for pricing, an ABM firm for ABM. Generalists are fine for a full strategy, but ask what they will subcontract.

    FIT
  3. 03

    Ask for the deliverable list

Get the exact documents, assets and systems you will own at the end. Compare like with like across providers.

    SCOPE
  4. 04

    Check who does the work

Ask who will run your project day to day, and how many other clients they have. The senior person on the sales call is not always the person doing the work.

    PEOPLE
  5. 05

Test their thinking on your data

Share a CRM export or a lost-deal list under NDA and ask for a 30-minute read. How they think matters more than their slides.

    TEST
  6. 06

    Read the terms

Minimum term, notice period, who owns the work, and what happens if targets are missed. Several providers publish these; ask the others in writing.

    TERMS
  7. 07

    Call two references

Speak to a client from the last 12 months at your stage. Ask what they still use from the engagement today.

    REFERENCES

Buying groups make this harder than it looks.

Forrester found procurement professionals are decision-makers in 53% of business buying cycles.

Involve procurement early if your company has it.

09/ due diligence

Questions to ask and red flags before you sign

Ask

Questions for every provider

Good providers answer with specifics and examples.

Vague answers here predict vague work later.

  • āœ“ Which of these services do you do in-house, and which do you subcontract?
  • āœ“ What exactly will we own at the end?
  • āœ“ Who works on our account, and how many other clients do they have?
  • āœ“ How will you measure whether the strategy worked?
  • āœ“ What happens to the plan if the first results are poor?
  • āœ“ What would you tell us not to buy from you?

Avoid

Red flags

Any one of these is a reason to slow down.

  • āœ“ A finished plan before they have seen your data or spoken to customers
  • āœ“ Every recommendation leads to their own retainer
  • āœ“ No published price and no written quote after the first call
  • āœ“ Long lock-in with no review point after 90 days
  • āœ“ Reports activity (posts, emails, impressions) instead of pipeline
  • āœ“ Templates presented as research, with no customer interviews
  • āœ“ Keeps the data, lists or CRM setup in accounts you do not own

On the last point: insist that every list, workflow and dashboard is built in accounts you own.

If you part ways, the work should stay with you.
